Who is Zafar E Jin :-
Ja'far,
Zafar, or Jenny Saffron was the son of Taiyar and was known to be the king of
the Muslim jinn. This is the same jinni who offered to help Imam Husayn ibn Ali
in Karbalā. According to one version of his biography, Zaʿfar died in the 1930s
and was succeeded by his son Shah Kāẓem.
LAHORE:
Before the
Black Hawk was down, there was Macnaghten, who was dragged in the streets by a
lynch mob. This was not in Mogadishu but in Kabul, not in the last century but
in the one before. In 1841 when the people of Kabul rose up against the
occupying forces and made them flee the country in disarray. They were ambushed
in the narrow mountain passes on the road to Jalalabad and the whole army was
wiped out, except an assistant surgeon who survived because of his reading
habits. He was carrying the popular Blackwood’s Magazine stuffed inside his
hat, to protect him from the bitter cold. It shielded him from a sword strike
and thus saved his life.
In 1809, the
wali of Kabul, Shah Shuja, was deposed by his half brother. He came to live in
Mubarak Haveli, inside Mochi Gate, between 1813-15. He was a royal guest in
name but actually a political prisoner of the mighty king, Maharaja Ranjit
Singh. The haveli was surrounded by a cordon of troops and the essential
supplies of food were cut off to persuade the unyielding Shah to surrender the
fabled Koh-i-Noor diamond. The siege continued for three days. The Shah blinked
first and intimated the Maharaja that he was ready to part with his most
precious possession. The diamond was removed from an emerald socket and put in
a gold frame. The Maharaja came down and received the offering in person. The
story goes that he asked Shah Shuja about the price of the diamond. He is said
to have replied that the price is equal to a baton. Whoever has the power to
wield the baton, will be the one to own the diamond.
If the Shah
thought that his troubles were over, he was mistaken. The wily Maharaja came to
know that the Shah had other precious jewels and was selling them from time to
time. The cordon sanitare around the haveli was reimposed. The Shah realised
that his prospects were grim. On a dark night, he broke out through a hatch,
effected in the rear wall of the haveli. He tried to leave through the Mochi
Gate, but it was being guarded by a posse of troops. He came to the Shah Alami
Gate where again he found impregnable security. Eventually he had to dive into
the sewer draining below the city wall near the Lohari gate and made good his
escape. He went to the Data Darbar, and washed himself in the ablution pond.
Beyond the
realm of the Punjab, beyond the River Sutlej, lay the Empire on which the sun
never set. The East India Company ruled from Calcutta and its inexorable march
was heading towards the north west frontier. For Shuja, Ludhiana would be the
obvious place of refuge and safety. He figured that this would be obvious to
his tormentors as well. So, rather than going east, he headed west. He swam
across the Ravi and then passing through Gujranwala, Sialkot and Jammu, ended
up in Kishtwar.
It would not
be too far off the mark to say that Shah had a roving eye, considering that he
had a harem of six hundred women who were ensconced in Ludhiana under the
auspices of the Company. This did not stop him from marrying the daughter of
the Raja of Kishtwar and starting a brief and disastrous campaign to conquer
Kashmir. Eventually, he did end up in Ludhiana, under the wing of the most
noble and exalted Company Bahadur, by the grace of God.
And there he
lived, one would think, an idyllic life of unending domestic bliss till 1832
when he made an abortive attempt to attack and capture Kabul. In 1839, he
received the marching orders and it was decided by Lord Auckland, the governor
general, to send him to Afghanistan at the head of the great Army of the Indus.
The invading
army assembled at Ferozepur, an area of the Punjab that had been ceded to the
British by Ranjit Singh in 1809. The Maharaja was not overly keen to allow this
multitude to trudge through the Punjabi territory, on their way to Kabul. So,
the 20,000 army and 40,000 camp followers set off along Sutlej to the Indus and
bivouacked near Hyderabad, a city they pillaged mercilessly for provisions.
They went through the Bolan pass via Quetta to Qandahar, subdued Ghazni after a
fierce battle and a lot of bribes and eventually were triumphant in Kabul. The
puppet King Shuja was reinstated and Dost Mohammed, the wali of Kabul, was
deposed and exiled to India.
Things came
to a head in 1841, when, as would sound familiar, the cost of maintaining a
large force in Afghanistan became a problem. The bulk of the forces were moved
back. The remaining British force in Kabul was poorly led and the ruler was
seen as a stooge of the foreign powers. There was an uprising and Macnaghten,
the representative of the governor general was arrested and shot in the mouth
by Wazir Akbar Khan, the son of Dost Mohammed. His body was dragged through the
streets of Kabul. The political agent, Alexander Burnes, another prominent Scot
and a cousin of Robert Burnes, the poet, also gave his life for the Queen and
the country.
A safe
passage to Jalalabad was negotiated but it soon became clear that there was no
intention among the new rulers of Kabul to honour it. The road to Jalalabad,
turned into a valley of death. 4500 Brits and 1200 of their Indian employees
were killed. The grand Army of the Indus was annihilated. Thus closed the main
chapter of the First Afghan War. Shah
Shuja was assassinated in 1842 in Afghanistan.
Ranjit Singh
died in 1839. During the next 10 years there were intrigues, palace coups and
political assassinations among his successors. At one time someone had shown a
map of India to the Maharaja, with the British areas shown in red. He had
famously said that one day all will be red. In 1849, the prophecy was fulfilled
and the British marched into Lahore. A young Maharaja Dilip Singh was packed
off to England and the Koh-i-Noor ended up in Queen Victoria’s crown.
Mubarak
Haveli was built in the Mughal times in the 18th century. It was given to Nawab
Ali Raza Qizilbash by the British. Part of it has been converted into an Imam
Bargah from where the mourning procession emerges on the 21st of Ramazan on the
martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali. It is also the abode of Jafar (Zaafer) Jinn who
arrived from Karbala in the hoary past and takes an active interest in the well
being of the faithful and responds to the needs of the petitioners. There is a
pond of water in the middle of the courtyard, which should always remain full
to the brim for men, birds and beasts to be able to slake their thirst. Jafer
Jinn takes a very dim view of any effort to turn the tap off and you do it at
your peril. There are basements and, of course, the mandatory secret tunnels to
Delhi which have since been filled up.
When I was
at school, I used to cycle up to the shop of Papa the Kite Seller in the next
street. Khawaja Sahib, our school teacher lived opposite and provided tuition
in his lovely small brick house with arched windows facing the street. The
ground floor facade has since been converted into ungainly shop fronts. Papa is
now gone, I was told by Bhopa, an out of work kite maker. Before the Basant
festival was banned, it had become a major foundation of the inner city
economy. Plane loads of fans would arrive from Karachi and even overseas. One
roof top would be rented for Rs 20,000. Bhopa’s trade was banned when people
started flying kites with glazed fish line. This was a deadly innovation and
could decapitate if someone had the misfortune to come in the way.
My friend
Mudassar Bashir, the local historian and a published author, feels that the
local economy and festive traditions have been dealt a blow because of the
failure of the government to enforce law. In spite of many petitions, the chief
minister remains unmoved.
Jafar Jinn
is the only hope.

the son of Taiyar and was known to be the king of the Muslim jinn. This is the
same jinni who offered to help Imam Husayn ibn Ali in Karbalā. According to one
version of his biography, Zaʿfar died in the 1930s and was succeeded by his son
Shah Kāẓem.
Za'far Jinni
(Arabic: زَعْفَر جِنّی) or Ja'far Jinni (Arabic: جعفر جِنّی) was, as some believe, the head of
jinns present in the event of 'Ashura. According to some reports, he offered
assistance to Imam al-Husayn (a), but he (a) did not accept. The story of
Za'far Jinni and his presence in Karbala is among controversial issues in the
history of 'Ashura, about which there is no mention in authentic Shi'a sources.
In Rawdat al-shuhada', Mulla Husayn Wa'iz Kashifi mentioned a comprehensive
story; but on the opposite, Murtada Mutahhari considered it among distortions
in the event of 'Ashura and a result of Kashifi's fiction.
In the
folklore of some regions in Iran, Za'far Jinni is mentioned and is displayed in
ceremonies such as ta'ziya. There are also illustrations of the presence of
Za'far Jinni in Karbala, one of which is the tile-work of Kermanshah's Tekyeh
Mu'aven al-mulk.
The story of
Za'far Jinni in the event of 'Ashura is not mentioned in any authentic Shi'a or
Islamic history sources.[1] The only available report about Imam al-Husayn (a)
and jinns is al-Majlisi's report in Bihar al-anwar quoting from al-Shaykh
al-Mufid who transmitted it from Imam al-Sadiq (a) mentioning the meeting of
some angels and jinns with Imam al-Husayn (a) upon exiting Medina. It narrates
that they offered to help Imam (a), but he (a) did not accept. However, no
names of any certain time or place is mentioned.[2]
Some
researchers including Mirza Husayn Nuri[3] and Morteza Motahhari[4] regarded
the story of Za'far Jinni among superstitions and distortions entered in the
history of 'Ashura.
Rawdat
al-shuhada' mentioned Za'far Jinni and described his appearance. It also
mentions his presence in Karbala and the rejection of his offer of assistance
by Imam al-Husayn (a).[5] Thus, the author of this book is considered the first
reporter and the creator of this story.[6]
Relation
with Ayatollah Burujirdi
Among
people, many stories have been spread about the relation between Ayatullah
Burujirdi and Za'far Jinni. Especially different stories are mentioned about
the death of Za'far and holding Funeral Procession for him by this Shi'a
marja'. According to researches, such stories have no certain origin and there
is nothing mentioned about it in the books and memories related to the
biography of Ayatullah Burujirdi.
Since there
are not any authentic proofs about the relation between Ayatullah Burujirdi and
Za'far, it seems that in laypeople's reports, a mistake has been made between
this famous marja' and an author with a similar name. Sayyid Ali Asghar Shafi'
Jabolqi Borujerdi (d. 1313 SH/1933) who was among the scholars of Borujerd and
the author of Tara'if al-maqal, mentioned Za'far Jinni in his book and reported
the story of the presence of Za'far Jinni in Karbala from one of his teachers,
he regarded as reliable.[7]
It seems
that the similarity between the names of Sayyid Ali Asghar Jabolqi Borujirdi
and Ayatullah Burujirdi misled reporters to attribute approvals of the stories
of Za'far Jinni to this Shi'a marja'.

relations with karbala and Ahlulbayt.......The meeting of Leader of Jinnat
ZAFER JINN (r.a) with the Poet of AHL-AL-BAIT (a.s)....MIR ANEES...Conversation
of Zafer Jinn with IMAM HUSSAIN (a.s) in KERBALA.....and many more.....
(Beautiful
& informative post, must read)
Those of you
who knows Urdu must be familiar with Mir Anees. He was the greates poet in the
history of Urdu language a few centuries ago. If one reads his poetry he/she
feel as if Mir Anees is sitting in Karbala and writting. Here's how attained
such percise knowledge.
Mir Anees
used to teach in a masjid/madressa. Little children would come to his classes
and learn Arabic/Quran/Deen etc. One day a young boy came to class who Mir
Anees had never seen before. Some thing seemed different about him from the
first moment. His homework was always perfect. The boy was very hard working
and very unusual. One day as the children were studying and Mir Anees was
thinking of picking a pen (or something of that sort) from a window sil. As he
was thinking the same young boy stood up and grabbed it and gave it to his
teacher. (Theres conflict among the story here as to what he did. Some scholars
say that the boy performed some very heavy duty physical work that attarcted
the attention of Mir Anees) What ever the case Mir Anees was now sure that the
boy was hiding something. So when all the students were about to leave. He
ordered the young boy to stay after school. When the masjid was empty and there
was no one except the boy and Mir Anees. Mir Anees aske him who are you? Where are
you from? You have unhaman characteristics...The boy said I am the grandson of
Zafar Jinn. Thus I am a Jinn. My family has sent me to gain knowledge from you
so I can recite majalis. And help my famil remember the martyrdom of Imam
Husain . My grand father is the one who replied to Imam's question for help. So
Mir Anees asked him about his granfather? He replied ever since the tragedy of
Karbala my grand father roams in the mountains and had been crying, weeping,
for he was unable to help the Imam and saw him get sluaghtered helplessly. The
teacher asked his student to ask Zafer to come to the mosque. The young Boy
promised him to bring his grand father at night.

Mir Anees was in the masjid alone. A candle was lighted beside him and he was waitting for Zafer jinn. Shortly a shadow appeared in the court yard of the mosque. And soon he saw a very old person entering. He was so old that his eye browse were hanging and blocking his eyes. THey exchanged greetings and Mir Anees asked him to tell the sotry of Karbala from the start.
There is a
battle known as the Battle of Bair-Al-Alam. In which Imam Ali fought the Jinns
in a deep well to get water. In it thousands of Jinns were killed and many more
turned muslims. The evil leader was also killed. I Zafer was chosen the new
muslim leader of these Muslim Jinns.
Zafer Jinn
was in Karbala.........
When Imam
Hussein(as) was alone in the plain of Karbala..after all his Children, brother,
nephew and friends were martryed ..he said this famous line "Hal Min
Nasirin Yansurna" (Is there among you a friend to help us)..not only once
but he said it to 4 corner of the world.
When Imam
Zayn Al Abidin(as) heard his father, he quicky raise himself from his bed and
said "Labbayk Ya Imam" ( I am comming O Imam, I am coming)..but he was
too sick and weak, and Sayyida Zaynab(as) went and urge him to lie back on bed.
The enemies
was firm to kill him. No one answered his plea.
and the
narations continue with this ..
"When
all the angels from heaven heard Master of Paradise, they beg permission from
Almighty God to help him. Rows and rows of angels came to help him, just like
when His Grandfather Holy Prophet(saw) prayed in Badr. A group of Jinn also
heard this plea and they proceed to Karbala. They came and all of them stand to
help the Imam"
An army of
mankind had surrounded a tent. A lone Man (Imam hussain) stood in the middle
giving speeches. They realized who it(as) was and quickly went to Jafar
Jinn(ra).
Zafar jinn
(ra) sat on his throne, the jinns alerted him, he took off his ornaments and
said:
Get ready,
we must reach my beloved Master(as). Oh Allah(swt) please ensure that we arrive
in time. Take our swords and let us make haste!!!
The army
approached the Euphrates and Zafar(ra) said:
With care,
this is the body of My Master Ali(sa) son. Oh tragedy, what has befallen the
kindred of Ali(sa)?
Then
Jafar(ra) saw the Prophets(as)/Messengers(sa), Imams(sa) and close ones of
Allah(swt). He saw Imam Hussain(sa) and had a lengthy conversation(Not going to
say what). Jafar(ra) was taken with rage and told his army to attack the evil
force.
The Imam(sa)
stopped them and said: I have the power by this is the time of test. Jafar(ra),
my Father(as)'s companion, it is unfair that you fight them whilst they can't
see you. They are my Grandfathers(saws) ummah. Then Jafar(ra) went back having
been ordered to do mourning and Majlis.
Jafar(ra)
went back, put black in his kingdom and cried. His Mother found out and asked
what had happened. She sent him back and told him to help the children in the
route of Sham. Then he was sent away because Hazrat Syeda Fatima Al-Zahra(sa)
was to come.....
(Note:
Didn't find any book but Shiite scholars narrate his story during their
addresses Specially Agha S.Ali Hassan Qumi)
